Permit System Closed
The online permit system is closed. To obtain a permit please pop into the Kawerau isite. Operating hours are Monday to Friday from 9 am - 4 pm Saturday and Sunday 10 am - 2 pm. Access to Tarawera Falls is granted during weekends and public holidays only.
Access permits to Tarawera Falls will now be issued from the Kawerau isite (Visitor Information Centre), Located on Plunket Street in Kawerau.
Operating Hours: Monday to Friday from 9am – 4pm (closed Christmas Day)
Saturday and Sunday 10 am – 2 pm

Road Vehicle access will NOT be granted to Lake Tarawera / Te Tapahoro Outlet
Please be advised that by obtaining a permit you can be at any time directed away from hazardous areas where logging operations or any other operations are taking place. These operations are often dangerous and involve the use of heavy machinery and equipment.
For your own safety and the safety of other users it is important that you comply with the conditions set out in the “Conditions of Issue”.
