MT PUTAUAKI CONDITIONS OF ISSUE

Nga Maunga Kaitiaki Trust Board and Hancock Forest Management Limited allows’ access through and for recreational and cultural purposes within maunga Putauaki and the Tarawera Forest they own or manage. For your own safety and the safety of other users in the forest it is important that you comply with the following Conditions.

Remember by obtaining a permit you can be at any time directed away from hazardous areas where logging operations or any other operations are taking place. These operations are often dangerous and involve the use of heavy machinery and equipment.

Permit holders are warned that the following hazards do exist in the Tarawera Forest in the course of forest operations and/or other operations:

- Moving vehicles including oversized logging trucks
- Falling and airborne matter including aerial spraying
- Stacked logs and skid (log processing) sites
- Dangerous machinery and equipment
- Excessive noise levels
- Restricted visibility (dust)

Natural disasters do occur and occur without warning. Permit holders are warned that:

If a natural disaster occurs while in the permitted area please ensure the safety of your group and contact emergencyservices immediately by dialing 111. Cellphone coverage can be poor in areas covered under the permit. In the case of an emergency a cellphone signal may not be easily obtained.

Anyone with a medical condition must carry with them at all times their medication required to treat their condition while in the permitted area.

Access may be limited in periods during the high fire season. A fire in the forest could put many people in danger. Please act responsibly at all times to ensure you (or anyone from your group) do not put anyone at risk.
This permit ONLY allows the permit holder access to forestry roads to travel to the area stated on the front of the permit.

  1. Access up and down the mountain is by way of foot by accessing the gravel four wheel drive track ONLY unless specifically approved as a special condition on the front of the permit.
  2. The permit is not transferable to any other person or vehicle. This permit only applies to the person and the vehicle named on the front of the permit. You must carry the permit with you at all times and produced on demand.
  3. Motor vehicles/aircrafts of any kind are strictly prohibited from driving or landing on the mountain unless specifically approved as a special condition on the front of the permit.
  4. The permit holder/driver holds a Full New Zealand Drivers Licence or other drivers licence which legally allows you to drive on NZ roads, and has held this licence for a minimum of 2 years.
  5. The vehicle stated on the permit has a current Registration and Warrant of Fitness.
  6. The speed limit while travelling on forestry roads is 70km, off road may differ. For the safety of all users pay particular attention to any signage or road warnings while travelling on these roads.
  7. The lighting of fires and smoking is totally prohibited at all times. Absolute caution must be taken at all times not to cause a fire.
  8. Permission to cross any private land not covered by this permit must have prior consent of the owner or occupier.
  9. The cutting, felling or removal of any trees, shrubs, volcanic rock or other forest produce/material is strictly prohibited unless specifically approved as a special condition on the front of the permit.
  10. This permit may be cancelled at any time by public notice issued by radio or published in a newspaper of the district where the mountain exists.
  11. While this permit confers permission to enter land as specified on the permit, the holder of this permit agrees that they do so entirely at their own risk.
  12. Nga Maunga Kaitiaki Trust and Hancock Forest Management Limited does not accept liability for any loss or damage suffered by any person or any loss or damage to any vehicle while within the vicinity of pursuant to this permit, whether that damage arises as a consequence of negligence of Nga Maunga Kaitiaki Trust, Hancock Forest Management Limited or any of its officers, employees, or otherwise.
  13. Permit holders are warned that poisoning of possums and other pest animals may occur in the area covered by this permit therefore you are cautioned against touching or approaching any bait, bait stations, lures or carcasses found.
  14. Dogs are not permitted in the areas covered by this permit unless specifically approved as a “special condition” on the front of the permit.
  15. Camping is strictly prohibited.
  16. Motorbikes and Firearms are strictly prohibited in or adjacent to Mt Putauaki.
  17. This permit does not confer any permit holder to trout fishing, game bird shooting or hunting of any animal by either land based or helicopter/fixed winged aircraft.
